Ricochet sons lead Riddellvue spring draft to $8000 twice

Strong support from repeat clients and a solid draft of Ricochet sons underpinned Riddellvue Angus’ Annual Spring Bull Sale, where 20 of 26 bulls sold to a top of $8000 twice and averaged $5947.

Clear weather at Markwood set the backdrop for Riddellvue Angus’ Annual Spring Bull Sale on Thursday, September 11, where a loyal buying bench and several new faces ensured steady demand across the catalogue.

Buyers were drawn to the depth of type on offer with the Ricochet and Poss Wrangler sons in demand. Many commented on the consistency of structure and performance data throughout the draft.

The sale achieved a top price of $8000 twice, with Lot 3 and Lot 15 both knocked down to long-standing Riddellvue clients.

In all, 20 of the 26 bulls offered changed hands to average $5947, reflecting a confident but selective market.

The first sale topper, Lot 3, Riddellvue Ricochet V53, was secured by the Walsh family based in Taggerty, Victoria

Principal Ian Bates described him as “the pick of the Ricochet bulls for type and confirmation; a well-rounded sire backed by strong industry pedigrees including Strathewen, Kidman, Baldridge and Matauri.”

Lot 15, Riddellvue Ricochet V51, matched the $8000 top when purchased by the Griffiths family from Northwood, Victoria.

“He’s a very complete bull with good numbers and proven cow families behind him,” Mr Bates said.

Mr Bates said it was pleasing to see both top-priced bulls head home with repeat clients, while also noting strong demand in the Goulburn Valley region, where 13 bulls were secured.

“It’s always encouraging to see that level of repeat support and equally good to welcome new clients to the program,” he said.

Among those newcomers was Riverview Dora Dora Pastoral Co, Talmalmo, NSW, who took home three sires; Lots 6 and 18, both Poss Wrangler sons, and Lot 12, another Ricochet son.

“The sale result reflects steady confidence in our breeding direction. We’re committed to producing practical, all-round Angus bulls backed by data and proven cow lines, bulls that will work for commercial herds across a range of environments,” Mr Bates said.
