Riddellvue Angus is focused on breeding cattle with commercial producers in mind. Founded by Ian Bates, whose passion for cattle breeding was ignited in the 1970s, the stud emphasises “doing the basics well,” focusing on cow families’ fertility, longevity. calving ease, structural soundness and animals who are phenotypically correct.
Riddellvue’s philosophy centres on producing true-to-type, well balanced Angus cattle with elite outcross genetics that add strength to the any herd and thrive in real-world conditions both on farm and feedlot.
The stud’s unique sire selection criteria aim to provide dual-purpose, well-bred bulls that contribute to weaner weight gain and yield exceptional female replacements for future breeding.
Utilising a combination of AI and ET programs to infuse new and current genetics that align with their breeding principles, the stud ensures the production of structurally sound, docile and easy-doing cattle that perform well in diverse operations.

Over the past five years, Riddellvue Angus has achieved significant milestones, reflecting the stud’s commitment to quality and client satisfaction.
In October 2022, the stud set a new sale record, selling Lot 13, Riddellvue Entice for $20,000 at their spring sire sale. Sired by Mogck Entice, Lot 13 was purchased by Dennis Heywood who markets 600 to 800 weaners annually through the Wangaratta feature sale.
Mr. Heywood praised the bull’s smooth skin, good feet, and ample length, noting its suitability for his weaner breeding program. He also appreciated that Riddellvue bulls are “not overfed” and perform well in the conditions of north-east Victoria.
The stud’s commitment to customer satisfaction extends beyond the sale, with Ian emphasising personalised service and support. “I like to breed genuine bulls,” Ian says. “It is nice to go through a season and not have anyone come through with breakdowns—I get great feedback throughout the year with phone calls of ‘we love this bull, temperament is fantastic, calves are really good.'”
With the stud’s home base now in North East Victoria, Riddellvue Angus will continue to offering top-quality bulls and females, reinforcing its reputation for breeding cattle that deliver real-world results for commercial producers.
